The third edition of Democracy Conversations brought together eminent experts to discuss the biggest challenge currently on the EU agenda – the EU reform. The debate on the EU reform is evolving rapidly, and more and more concrete proposals shape it. The event featured the conversation between two co-authors of the recent biggest contributions to the debate – Daniela Schwarzer, the member of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Board and the co-rapporteur of the Franco-German expert group on the EU reform and Guy Verhofstadt, MEP and a former Belgian prime minister, co-author of the AFCO report on the Treaty change. Janis Emmanouilidis, Director of the Studies from European Policy Center also joined the conversation. The experts discussed a wide range of questions: drivers behind the reform and its main focus, reactions of the member states and EU institutions to both proposals, the political context and conditions for the reform process, and the next most urgent steps in light of the current political climate and given the proximity of European elections.
